Name: Andrianna Ayiotis

Pronouns: she/ her/ hers

Title: Executive Board Member, GSS Tri-School

Hey all! My name is Andrianna Ayiotis and I am a 2nd year PhD student in Biomedical Engineering (we’re part of SOM!). I was born in NYC (Astoria, Queens like all the other Greek-Americans) but was raised in Northern Virginia about 20 minutes outside of DC. I did my undergrad in BME at the University of Southern California (USC) and interned at Genentech before starting at Hopkins. In my free time, I’m a sucker for nerdy TV shows/movies, love singing karaoke, and jigsaw puzzles.

Name: Albert Bernabe

Pronouns: he/ him/ his

Title: Executive Board Member, President, GSS SON

My name is Albert. I was born in the Philippines and migrated in the United States when I was 12 years old. I am a fourth semester student at SON. Prior to nursing, I received my bachelor’s degree in fashion design at the Academy of Art University  in San Francisco with an emphasis on womenswear and worked with various fashion brands in Los Angeles such as Rodarte. While working on my prerequisites courses to attend nursing school, I worked as a nurse assistant in a psychiatric unit (Gero-psych), which reassured my passion for nursing. I have 2 dogs (Siberian husky and German shepherd mixed shown in the picture) back in California that my parents are currently holding hostage (in a good way because they love both of them so much). As I continue my journey in nursing school,  whenever time permits, I like to assess my level of consciousness using the Glasgow Coma Scale (my score remains to be 15, which is good ;-]).

I have degrees in opera performance and biology from Indiana University and Metropolitan University of Denver. I have sung professionally, and worked in clinical and research medical institutions, as well as in luxury retail. I am a proud human mom, proud dog and cat mom, proud girlfriend and proud member of our beautiful LGBTQ+ community here at JHU! I am currently a Research Assistant working with Dr. Teresa Brockie on the implementation of a suicide surveillance tool for use on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. I plan to specialize in adolescent mental health upon graduation. As a founding executive board member of GSS SON, I am excited to help create a student organization for LGBTQ+ and allies that will provide relevant and informed LGBTQ+ education.

I am a second-year medical student originally from Northville, Michigan. I went to the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia for my undergraduate in neuroscience and then came straight through to medical school. When not studying or doing research, I love to cook, bake chocolate desserts, and explore around Baltimore. I’m excited to be a part of the GSS board and to help foster a welcoming community for LGBTQ+ students at Hopkins!

Name: Kirby

Pronouns: he/ him/ his

Title: Board Member, GSS SON

Hey, my name is Kirby and I’m currently in my fourth semester in the MEN program. I was born and raised in Jersey, but absolutely love traveling and am interested in health on a global scale. I officially caught the travel bug while volunteering at a hospice AIDS clinic in Costa Rica in college. After graduation, I joined the Peace Corps in Liberia but was evacuated due to the exacerbated Ebola outbreak, WOOF’ed in Thailand, and then did three years in Mozambique with the Peace Corps again as a health volunteer working primarily on HIV and malaria education. After Hopkins and fully transitioning, I plan on traveling with organizations like Doctors Without Borders. Until then, I volunteer with SOURCE doing HIV testing/counseling, work at the Hopkins Center of Transgender Health, and tutor.

Title: Board Member, GSS SON

Cheers, friends, my name is Bianca and I’m a 4th semester nursing student, sex educator, and activist. You’ll find me around campus being loud and having opinions about all variety of social justice issues. On the weekends, I teach the breast and pelvic exam to med students in the area and I’m trying my hand at gardening!
